TAKK Rebrand

Art Direction, Graphic Design, Packaging Design

TAKK is a Nordic inspired, Manchester based coffee house and roastery. Their brand has become a synonym of top quality specialty coffee around the North, but the visual side of it had begun to look a
bit dated in 2021.
I was approached with the task to bring back the excitement in their visual language, introduce more playfulness and colour while keeping the Nordic spirit alive.

The challenge with this rebrand was to introduce a lot of bold and contemporary elements while keeping a heritage element and making it prominent in the new logo and its variations.

The result of a few months' labour - a logo that looks current but timeless, quirky but not kitsch.

To stay on the top of the dynamic specialty coffee market, we identified the need for each of their new coffee releases to have a unique and distinguishable 'skin'.
That is how the multi-faced logotype was born. It was not enough to have just a pretty set of letters, it had to be singing and dancing.

One variation of the logo was chosen to be the main one and used in their digital presence, and an additional set of 20 were developed and paired with their signature blends.

Colour is a king, specially in packaging. And picking up a colour palette that is meaningful and eye catching is my favourite stage of every rebrand I've worked on.

For the Weird and Wonderful series, featuring coffees with unexpected flavours, I had the chance to explore super vibrant combinations of colours, with base hues rooted in the tasting notes of each coffee.

And to spice up all of the collateral, I usually like to establish a brand's own visual code, that grabs the attention but at the same time tells a story.
For TAKK I wanted to really focus on their love of the bean in all its forms.

It turns out that Nordic does not always equal neutral tones and minimalism.
